The Manitoba Habitat Foundation is a private, non-profit, charitable organization established to recieve, hold, maintain and manage upland and wetland habitat in perpetuity. MHF provides landowners the opportunity to donate or bequeath land to a non-government agency that is dedicated to the preservation of the land or its productive elements to perpetual support of the ecosystem. Today MHF "Wild Space" network has grown to: - 12,566.01 acres (125.11 hectares, 19.56 square miles, 50.71 square km). - 25 parcels of land - 3,500 acres, owned and managed by the Foundation. - 57 parcels - 7,600 acres, owned by MHF, but managed by Ducks Unlimited Canada. - 1 parcel - 80 acres Conservation Easement with the RM of Portage la Prairie. - 3 1/2 quarters - 560 acres bequeathed to the RM of Portage la Prairie to be held for wildlife habitat in perpetuity by a habitat maintenance agreement between the municipality and the MHF. - 31 Cooperator agreements - 5,000 acres secured with property owners. |
