At the recent Manitoba Lodges and Outfitters Association meeting, City Cats had an opportunity to speak with Mariko Izumi (Hookin' Up) from the WFN network to talk about Channel Cat and Walleye fishing.

City Cats is a regular on Winnipeg's Breakfast Television show starring our fishing buddy Jon Ljungberg. Whether it's promoting upcoming events like the Winnipeg Fish Festival or the Fall Fishing Derby, CITY TV shows it media community support.

City Cats has also worked with Shaw Cable on a number of promotional spots showcasing Winnipeg's urban fishery. In only minutes from your door, you can be fishing for cats, walleye and other species of fish.

Having spent some time with Larry Updike (morning show host) fishing on the water, has made a believer out of him. City Cats has been a guest on a number of radio shows talking about fishing techniques and where to land the BIG ONE!

City Cats and Kathy Kennedy make a wicked combination in promoting recreational fishing in Winnipeg to those rockers who share our passion. Todd Longley, also known as "The Rock'n Roll Fishermen", and 92 CITI promote local fishing events for Winnipeggers to enjoy. Check out Kathy's Blog here!

There's beauty all around. We're zipping southward in a trio of boats on the pregnant Red River just outside of Selkirk, Manitoba, where spring rains have pushed the shoreline up several feet.

A RED RIVER TAIL

It's very early on a July morning. We sit quietly in a fishing boat watching the mist hovering over the Red River. It's cloudy today and there's a crisp breeze, but near the horizon is the Manitoba promise of a warm summer day. After a flailing cast my line hangs inthe water, waiting flirtatioulsy for a channel cat to bit. "Wait for a good, firm pull-down and then .. hang "em," advises my fishing guide Todd Longley ...

WINNIPEG FISH FESTIVAL - OUTDOOR EDGE MAGAZINE

The 2008 Winnipeg Fish Festival was once again held at the Forks and was a huge success. The festival is one of many angling programs offered through Winnipeg's Urban Angling Partnership (UAP) over the summer.

The Red River is prime catfishing territory. There are some monsters out there, and guide Todd Langley of City Cats Guiding Service has a knack for finding them, so you can bet on pulling in some big ones. The only thing tougher than getting those fish into the net is holding them up for a photo — at 35- plus pounds, they’re a handful!

MANITOBA VOYAGEUR - FALL/WINTER 2008

Kim and Greg's Manitoba stop included dinner at Corydon's Fresh Cafe, where Greg enjoyed his first taste of bison. The couple also had a chance to fish the Red River, and Greg was stunned to reel in a 32 inch catfish.

CHALLENGE CANADA UK WINNERS

Early the next morning, the guys show up to take us for the first part of our challenge - big catfishing on the Red River! This is something new for both of us, although we both have a little bit of angling experience, somehow, I don't think crab fishing compares.
