Fish Winnipeg is a one-day event that raises monies targeted at youth at-risk angling programs in Winnipeg. The event is separated into two parts; the Media Challenge in the morning, and the Corporate Challenge in the afternoon.
MEDIA CHALLENGE:
The Media Challenge, to be held between 5:30 am and 9:00 am, followed by a “Fish Fry” breakfast, will give media personalities the opportunity to fish with a pro-fisherman and experience first hand, the world class sports fishery in Winnipeg.
CORPORATE CHALLENGE:
The Corporate Challenge, to be held between 12:30 pm and 5:00 pm, followed by an awards banquet dinner, will help showcase the spectacular urban fishery to our corporate community. By providing such opportunities to a diverse group of people, we are hoping to get the message out that fishing along the Red and Assiniboine rivers in Winnipeg is a fun and healthy alternative leisure activity that can be enjoyed by all Winnipeggers.
This year, the event raised over $16,000 that was targeted at youth at risk from the inner city area and approximately 500 kids will enjoy an angling experience in the city this summer. Next year’s event promises to be even better. Twenty five pro-guides are available in 2014 and it is hoped to raise sufficient funds to increase the number of kids fishing this year. In addition, Fish Futures Inc. will purchase rod and reel combinations to give to every child that goes fishing this summer under this program.
